Up until recently, dinner time in my household was my husband off at work while the kids and I sat in the living room, tuned into our electronics and basically gobbling down our meal without much interaction. We had a perfectly usable dinner table in the dining room that we never used..
I knew things had to change and so we all decided that we would start having dinner at the table - as a family. No electronics allowed and nobody was allowed to leave the table until dinner was over.
Then, a few weeks ago, the kids and I have started reading a daily devotional together while we're sitting together eating dinner. I never realized what an impact reading these devotionals meant to the kids until I forgot to read it one night and Garrett quickly reminded me. While both kids have a wonderful Bible of their own, one thing they were lacking was a really great Bible Devotional that wasn't too "baby-fied" or wasn't too advanced for their current level that we could use. I had been in the market for a while to find a great devotional to use with the family during our dinner time and while we we were using a nice Max Lucado one that is great for reflection of character, we also wanted one that focused more on the actual Bible and scriptures.
My prayers were answered when I was given the opportunity to review the ESV Devotional Bible from Crossway. This Bible is written in the English Standards Version which is an "essentially literal" translation of the Bible in contemporary English which emphasizes "word for word" accuracy, literary excellence and depth of meaning in translation.
