Awana Thursday

The girls started back up with Awana two weeks ago and I figured I would start to share with yall what they are doing each week.

This week is Sports Week, so the girls are wearing sports jerseys.  The only jersey I had small enough for little Ashleigh was my Varlamov jersey. It still swallowed her up, but she was cute regardless.  We had to complete the look with a black eye and a bandaid, after all, it's hockey.  I honestly got a good laugh at how many people actually thought the black eye was real..

Alyssa is teaching the blue team for Sparks this year. The focus of their lessons this week comes from Genesis 4: 1-7 and Mark 12: 41-44.

Ashleigh will be reciting Psalms 139: 7-10. Her lesson was about how God is always with you, no matter where you are.

Where shall I go from Your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from Your presence?

If I ascend to heaven, You are there!  If I make my bed in Sheol, You are there!

If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me.     -  Psalms 139: 7-10

She will also be reciting her review verse from last week.

It is He who made the earth by His power, who established the world by His wisdom, and by His understanding stretched out the heavens.  - Jeremiah 10:12

Ashleigh had a bit of struggle with this weeks verse. There were a bit of tears and statements of she was too stupid to do the verse, that she was going to be made fun of if she messed up.   This led to a discussion of how Satan puts self doubt into her mind so that she will not learn the lesson of the verse.   To counter this, she ran out into the front yard and yelled "Not Today Satan!!" before coming back in and reciting her verse perfectly.  "Not today Satan" indeed.

Her prayer requests for this week are for the victims of the shooting in Las Vegas as well as for poor mom, who is still fighting with Strep Throat and inflamed lymph nodes.

We didn't realize that tonight that there would be a Golden Awana buck awarded.  Last year, they only gave the Golden buck out on a small few of the special nights, so we were not expecting them to be given out this early in the year.  SO when they announced that they were awarding 1 for the boys and 1 for the girls, and Ashleigh had won, well, there was plenty of excitement to go around.
