MyFreezEasy (A Homeschool Crew Review)

We've all been there.  You walk in the house from a long day, all you want to do is just sit on the couch and unwind but before you even here "Hi honey, how was your day" you instead hear "MOM!!  WHATS FOR DINNER??"..  You look at the clock and you realize that your typical dinner time is only an hour away and you haven't the first clue as to what you want to make and you really don't feel like standing in the kitchen cooking an entire meal from scratch.  Maybe you should just order a pizza or ask your husband to pick up burgers on the way home.

I've been in that situation more times than I would really care to admit in the past. However, recently, this hasn't been a problem I've experienced in the last month since we started using MyFreezEasy.com Freezer Meal Plan Membership from MyFreezEasy. Instead, I have a freezer full of delicious meals ready to go with a variety of options.

What is MyFreezEasy?

Designed by Erin Chase, MyFreezEasy is a meal planning membership program that provides a large selection of easy to prepare meals that can quickly be assembled in large batches and then put in the freezer for quick dinner options for less than one hour of work.  With the basic membership, each month members have access to 5 new recipes, shopping lists, printable assembly instructions and video instructions to help them quickly prepare 10 meals for the month from one of five meal plan options.

Available meal plan options include:

A premium membership (which is what Crew members were given)  is also available and allows members access to all 5 meal plans and give the option to mix and match recipes from each of these plans to make your own custom meal plan.  Members can also sort recipes by protein and cooking method.  Each recipe makes suggestions as to possible sides to serve with the meal and there is also a free Ebook available on the website for premium members with recipes for sides to serve as well.   Another great option that is available with the Premium Membership is the ability to change the amount of servings per recipe.

How We Used It

For this review, I thought this would be a great way to teach my oldest daughter meal planning and preparation.  Alyssa is hoping to go away to college and won't have Mom cooking for her every night and I really dread the idea of her eating ramen noodles every night.  So we printed out our first set of meal plans and headed to the grocery store to purchase the ingredients.   All ingredients used are easy to find and do not require special products that one would have to go to specialty stores for.  In our case, we were able to purchase almost everything at our local Aldi supermarket and was able to purchase the last few remaining items at the commissary on base.

Once all our shopping was done, we set out to prepare ten meals, 9 going into the freezer and one to cook for dinner that night.  For this particular meal prep, we made 2 each of Slow Cooker Teriyaki Pork Tenderloins, Slow Cooker Spicy Mango Chicken Tacos, Ravioli Bakes, Lazy Lasagna Bakes and Chicken Fajita Bakes.   We put all our ingredients onto the counter where we then got to work.  Or at least, Alyssa got to work while Mom sat on a stool at the counter and supervised.

The instructions for the meals were very easy to follow. Just print out the instruction sheets and follow the directions that tell you what to add to each freezer bag or foil baking pan. Measurements for spices and liquids are given in standard Tsps, tsps and cups.

Granted, after all was said and done, my kitchen was a downright mess but my teenager was pretty thrilled to realize that she had made 10 meals all on her own.  She said that it was actually very fun to do and that she found it very easy to follow along with.  It took her less than an hour from start to finish.

Meals prepped and in the freezer for later
So, the big question anyone would probably ask is "How did they taste?".. I mean, it's one thing to have 10 meals prepped in your freezer but if they don't taste that great, who's going to want to eat them, right??

Out of these 10 meals, we've eaten each of them at least once and a few of them we ate twice. Everyone in the family really enjoyed the meals and there wasn't much as far as leftovers went as plates generally were finished.

Our experience with MyFreezEasy didn't end with just those meals, however.  In the course of the last month, we have also tried many other recipes offered on the website, such as Chicken and Spinach Flautas (a huge hit with the kids), Slow Cooker Pork Chops with Apples and Sweet Potatoes, Slow Cooker Mongolian Beef, Slow Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup, Baked Swedish Meatballs, Slow Cooker French Dip Sandwiches, Greek Chicken Bake, Minestrone Soup, Sloppy Joe Sandwiches and Upside Down Nacho Skillet.  Everyone has really enjoyed these meals and my husband, who is pretty picky when it comes to chicken, has even enjoyed them very much.  Even my EXTREMELY picky 8 year old has eaten everything we have tried so far.

I can't tell you how grateful I was having these meals already prepped in my freezer and ready to go when needed.  Two weeks ago, my kids got the hall floor wet after taking a bath and I ended up falling and injuring my knee.  For a number of days, I was unable to stand in the kitchen for long periods of time and it was nice to have my husband or daughter just grab a bag or pan out of the freezer, defrost it and pop it either in the oven or the slow cooker (which is why there were so many slow cooker recipes used  lol)..  For the first time in a long time, the pizza delivery driver has not made a trip to my house.

Another added benefit is that Charles, Alyssa and myself have all ended up losing a bit of weight since starting using this meal plan.  This was a huge surprise to me as I have been following one of the more recently popular eating plans with little success and I did not go into this review expecting to lose any weight. I am over 40 and suffer from a very slow metabolism disorder from years of not eating.. So one can only imagine my shock to step on the scale to find I had lost 10 lbs since starting using MyFreezEasy.  Granted, this is not a diet plan and does not promote itself as such - you will not find any weight loss tips on the website.  But I do want to mention this if anyone who is might be worried about their weight and hesitant to join because of it.

Overall, we've been extremely happy using the MyFreezEasy meal planning.  Having a variety of meals in the freezer ready to go has been a game changer for us.  I just might take Domino's off my speed dial ;)
